Almighty God Pleads

That should be a blazing page one headline in every newspaper in the world. It should amaze us that the all-powerful Creator-God humbles Himself and pleads with men to trust Him and that He uses other puny little men to do it.

Psalms 8:4: What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Here are a few of the many special passages that reveal the Heart of God and His method.

Jeremiah 2:9: Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children*s children will I plead.

Jeremiah 2:35: Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

Ezekiel 17:20: And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.

Ezekiel 18:31-32: Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

Ezekiel 20:35-36: And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. 36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.

Romans 10:21: But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

It is remarkable that He wants to give us hearts like His. There is nothing we can do like God does it. But in this one thing He gives us the privilege of being a little bit like Him. He gives us the privilege of pleading with others to be reconciled to Him and to dedicate themselves wholly to Him. He gives us the privilege of working with Him. He has entrusted us with the gospel.

2 Corinthians 5:20: Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ*s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

1 Corinthians 3:9a: For we are labourers together with God: . . .

1 Thessalonians 2:4: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
